Industry and Investment

The Industry and Investment division works closely with the industry to develop a commercially sustainable tourism industry. The division facilitates the delivery of quality tourism infrastructure of net benefit to Victoria through the identification of market opportunities, assistance to private and public sector projects and strategic input to projects of high priority to Victoria.

The Industry and Investment division works across three key areas; Industry Development, Tourism Investment and Aviation.

Industry Development

The Industry Development division is responsible for managing relationships with several key industry partners including Tourism Alliance Victoria, Victorian Tourism Industry Council, Tourism Accreditation Board of Victoria and Service Skills Victoria.

The division also promotes professionalism and excellence within the industry by providing development assistance, and through the Victorian Tourism Awards and Tourism Excellence.

Tourism Investment

The Tourism Investment division is a strategic team within Tourism Victoria committed to improving the quality, diversity and spread of Victoria’s tourism infrastructure. This is vital in increasing Victoria's share of domestic and international visitors and capturing the flow-on economic benefits to the State.

Objectives:

  • To be Australia’s leading state in attracting and facilitating investment in quality tourism infrastructure.
  • Ensure Victoria’s tourism infrastructure and product maintains a competitive edge.
  • Develop tourism infrastructure in Victoria that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable and of net benefit.

Aviation

The key focus of Tourism Victoria’s Aviation division, via a Government-endorsed aviation strategy, is to improve air services between Victoria and key tourism markets.

Objectives:

  • Achieve an average growth in international passenger movements to key market of 5 per cent over the next five years.
  • Maximise the benefits of Melbourne Airport as a 24-hour international gateway.
  • Ensure international air services to Melbourne operate profitably and provide effective air services to current and new business, trade and tourism markets.
  • The preparation of comprehensive airline submissions with the aim of attracting new, additional and improved air services to Victoria.
The Aviation division has active involvement in:
  • Commonwealth regulatory matters affecting aviation, including input to bilateral negotiations for air rights (eg, International Air Services Commission, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Productivity Commission and Department of Transport and Regional Services).
  • Inter-government negotiations to facilitate selected air services.
  • Government airline negotiations, particularly with respect to business and market studies underlying expanded or new air services proposals.
