Tourism Victoria

As a Victorian State Government statutory authority, Tourism Victoria is the vehicle through which the Government participates in the tourism and travel industries. It supports marketing programs for regions affected by crisis events and assists Tourism Response and Recovery Groups (see below).

Tourism Alliance Victoria (TAV)

TAV is the Victoria’s peak tourism industry association. Its roles include advocating for and supporting the development of a professional and sustainable tourism industry in Victoria. TAV may lobby government for resources to assist regions affected by an emergency.

Tourism Response and Recovery Group (TRRG)

A TRRG is a core group of stakeholder representatives for a region who are responsible for formulating a local or regional Crisis Communications Plan for tourism. The recommended activities of the TRRG are outlined in Tourism Victoria’s publication Crisis Communications Handbook for Local and Regional Tourism.

Regional Tourism Organisation/Tourism Campaign Committee

Your regional tourism organisation or campaign committee is responsible for marketing the region. They conduct promotional activities to bring people back to the region after an emergency has occurred. They are also active participants in TRRGs.

Local Tourism Association (LTAs)

Your local tourism association may also play an important role in preparing and responding to an emergency, depending on the organisation.

Business Victoria

Business Victoria is a comprehensive online resource designed to help operators to start, run and grow a business. The website, business.vic.gov.au, provides many useful tools for a business preparing for, or recovering from, an emergency.

Emergency Management Australia

Emergency Management Australia is the Australian Government agency responsible for reducing the impact of emergencies on the Australian community. It is also the lead Australian Government agency for emergency response.

EMA provides dedication and expertise to the emergency management aspects of community safety. EMA makes an essential contribution to ensuring coordinated Australian Government criminal justice, security and emergency management activity, for a safer Australia.

EMA works closely with Victoria and other States to achieve a number of prevention, response and recovery activities.

Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner

The Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner (OESC) provides leadership in emergency management for Victoria, with specific responsibilities for ensuring the delivery of efficient, equitable and integrated fire and emergency services. The Office was established in 2000.

The Office oversees the state’s emergency management arrangements, which are described in the Emergency Management Manual Victoria.

Australian Tourism Accreditation Program

The National Tourism Accreditation Program has some useful tools to guide you through a risk assessment and the preparation of an emergency management plan for your business. It was used as a resource for this toolkit.

WorkSafe Victoria

WorkSafe Victoria is the occupational health and safety arm of the Victorian WorkCover Authority (VWA). It takes the lead role in the promotion and enforcement of health and safety in Victorian workplaces.
