Dennis Hopper isn't just the crazed journalist buzzing about deep in the Apocalypse Now jungle, or the oxygen–mask dependent psychopath in Blue Velvet. He's also an accomplished
photographer and art collector, thank you very much. Spearheading the New Hollywood movement in the late '60s and '70s, Hopper and his cronies ushered in a new era of expression, giving a commercially viable
voice to the independents. This major new exhibition at ACMI includes artwork, photography and genre–defining memorabilia from
Hopper's personal collection, with work by Jasper Johns, Jean–Michelle Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Hopper's bad self.
Until 25 April. Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Federation Square, Melbourne. Tel: 03 8663 2200.

The stock market is a bit of a downer right now. Why not get out of there and meet us at a vintage market? Sunday Best launches at The Order of Melbourne on 6 December with live gospel music and old–school barbers on site to tend your quiff. The Hello Sailor Vintage Fair moves its abundance of booty to the Grace Darling on 28 and 29 November. And, for new stuff, try the tenth Melbourne Design Market on 6 December. It feels good losing money in the market market.
The Order of Melbourne, Level 2, 401 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
Tel: 03 9663 6707.
The Grace Darling Hotel, 114 Smith Street, Collingwood. Tel: 03 9416 0055. |

For some people, stumbling out of one of Melbourne's top–shelf eateries on a gastro–high is not enough. They want a back
stage tour. Author Michael Harden has spearheaded his own investigation, and the result is
Melbourne: The Making of a Drinking and Eating Capital. This slick hardback charts the evolution of our city's food obsession, featuring profiles on leading winers and diners – and some tasty photos. We
have a copy to give away! To enter, tell us what restaurant is next door to MoVida. Email us (use the link, don't reply) including your answer in the subject line by 5pm, Monday 30 November.
