Royal Mail Wine Director Lok Thornton
On 5 and 6 September, Dunkeld, one of Australia's most acclaimed gourmet destinations, will throw open its doors for the ‘Discover Dunkeld' weekend, giving visitors the chance to discover the many hidden facets of the town's culture, history, stunning landscapes and personalities.
Included among the program will be tours of the Mount Sturgeon Homestead; a tour and yoga session with Frank Jesse at the picturesque Griffins Hill Retreat and Yoga Studio; a behind-the-scenes tour of the Royal Mail wine cellar by the hotel's wine director, Lok Thornton (pictured) and live jazz in the Royal Mail Hotel courtyard.
There will be many offerings for nature lovers including touring the Dunkeld Arboretum, hiking the Piccaninny Trail in Grampians National Park with a local ranger, searching for wildflowers at the Aquila Eco Lodges bushland property and a guided tour of the many local open gardens.
A new history of Dunkeld written by leading art historian Andrew Mackenzie will be launched over the weekend, while visitors who can travel just a short distance from the town will be able to taste cheese at Grampians Pure Sheep Dairy and sample wines at the local wineries of Varrenti and Corea.
To celebrate this special weekend, all Dunkeld accommodation providers will offer a special ‘stay three nights pay for two' package - call 1800 807 056 for more information.
